Identifying the Business Problem

When I joined Brighter AI, I was the only designer in the company. They had a strong marketing brand presence but no UI for their product—it was purely API-based software. The brand guidelines? Just a single page from a past redesign for their website.

Once I delivered the MVP for the anonymization tool, I quickly realized something important:

I pitched this to the CEO, Marian, and got his full support to move forward.

Marian Glaeser

Co-Founder/CEO of Brighter AI
What stood out about Javier was their ability to see beyond immediate design needs and think strategically about scalability. They quickly recognized the importance of establishing a design system—not just for visual consistency, but to streamline development and future-proof our product growth. Their proactive collaboration with both the leadership team and developers made a lasting impact on how we approached product design at Brighter AI.

Challenges and How I Tackled Them

1. Collaborating with Developers to Build the System

I sat down with the developers to understand how we were currently working and the best way to generate consistency moving forward. Since we were using a MUI React UI tools library, I proposed reusing as many components as possible—while staying true to Brighter AI’s brand.
It wasn’t just about slapping on brand colors; I made sure the UIs felt fully integrated with the company’s visual language.

2. Building Reusable UX Patterns

As the product started growing, I identified recurring UX patterns. Instead of reinventing the wheel every time, I documented these patterns and ensured the team reused them for future implementations. This made things faster, more consistent, and easier to maintain.

3. Keeping Things Practical and Scalable

I didn’t want the design system to become overly complex. I kept it focused on exactly what we needed for the early stages—components, patterns, and clear documentation that aligned with both user needs and development requirements.

Key Contributions

  • Created Brighter AI’s First Design System:
Laid the foundation by defining components, patterns, and visual guidelines.
  • Collaborated Closely with Developers:
Worked hand-in-hand with engineers to ensure components were both beautiful and functional.
  • Documented and Standardized UX Patterns:
Ensured design solutions could be reused across the product to save time and improve consistency.
  • Maintained Brand Integrity:
Made sure every interface felt authentic to the Brighter AI brand—not just a material library clone.

This project reflects my ability to build functional and scalable design systems, work closely with cross-functional teams, and champion a user-first approach—all while staying practical and results-driven.
